Vanilla Undercover: Underpaint with Copic Markers for Beautiful Realism - Pink Sugar

Add realism to Copic Marker blends by underpainting with complementary or opposite colors. Real shade isn’t just darker, real shade is murky and desaturated. Yellow-Green tames a hot and vibrant Red-Violet. | VanillaArts.com | #copicmarker #realisti…

Soften Pink to Make it Sweet

Real shade is not darker color, real shade is desaturated color.

To create the desaturated colors that Copic Marker does not make, Vanilla Arts Company teaches Online Workshops and Livestream Coloring Challenges using the underpainting method. Students learn to layer colors realistically rather than blend.

Underpainting creates natural colors found in everyday life.

Pink Sugar

Elena’s Advice:

Copic RV markers tend to be very bold and bright. The Vanilla Arts team calls them “candy colors”.

You’d think a candy color would be perfect if you’re coloring candy, right?

Not if you want realistic candy.

Shade is always a murky and desaturated color, even when the item is bright, happy, candy.

To create the real and rounded look of this pink sugared truffle, we needed to add something to neutralize the hot pink. Yellow green wasn’t my first choice but once it sat for a few minutes, the swatch was amazing!

Give this one time to blend on it’s own. You give it lots of moisture and then let the ink do the rest. The YG slowly melts into the pink and makes for the perfect shade color.
