Let’s Color Realistic Oranges!
Today I’m showing you an up close, tight shot of just one glorious orange. It’s based on a brand new digital stamp from Marcella at PowerPoppy.com.
The entire Oranges and Aloe stamp has a lot more to color. To my eye, this is the best orange in Marcella’s line drawing, it’s a juicy cut-half showing off the cute orange segments which are perfect for fun texture details.
I’ve colored the orange with a combination of Copic Markers and Prismacolor Premier Pencils.
So why would I name this color swatching series after dirt? Take a closer look.

As a coloring newbie, you didn’t really know what to do, so you colored the center of a daisy with one yellow marker or pencil. The petals were one solid color of pink. The leaves were one green.

And yet when you go off on your own, picking original color palettes and choosing your own markers or pencils… well… your coloring is still good but, uhm… there’s something missing.
Your personal projects don’t have the same oh-la-la you see in professional projects.

I love color.
You love color.
Color, color, color. It’s all about the color. The more, the better!
But I’m always a little sad when I see Copic Marker tutorials or colored pencil classes that use a mile long list of supplies. And I’m even sadder when I read online posts from people who sincerely want to start coloring but they’ve talked themselves out of it, because they don’t have enough colors yet.
Folks, you don’t need to own the whole rainbow.
In fact, it’s better if you don’t.
